Emergent Bass is doing a takeover as part of Rehearsing Freedoms. Emergent Bass is an award winning event series that originated in Berlin, celebrating the Afro-Caribbean influence in electronic music and underground club culture. The events showcase Black and global majority DJs who honour the lineage of soundsystem culture and the genres that have emerged from it including Dancehall, Jungle, Baile Funk, Soca, Hip Hop, as well as other bass heavy sounds from across the diaspora. AfroOankali aka Camille Barton is one of the founders, resident DJs and curators for Emergent Bass.
Expect DJ sets from TrYb, CHEZA LUCINA and AfroOankali.
You are invited to come as you are and use dance as a healing tool to be with your joy, your grief or to recharge in order to create more beauty in the wider world.

Local heavy weight selector TrYb has exploded with energy across the UK and European scene, with recent gigs for Pxssy Palace, Club Yeke and Jungle Kitty. TrYb also hosts the Highlife and Sunshine Show on NTS and TrYb and Friends on Voices Radio. Known for her blend of diasporic sounds she has proven that no matter the genre TrYb will be setting levels.
DJ CHEZA LUCINA is a multi-dimensional artivist. Curating sets that weave big bassy grooves together, exposing the underground sounds from all around. Traveling across space from South London to South Africa, over to South America and back to St.Vincent. Spanning genres from soca, dembow and amapiano to jungle, dubstep and garage! You’ll find CHEZA LUCINA on the stage in the UK every weekend playing for events and venues like Somerset House, Secret Garden Party, Howl, Riposte, Queer Rave, Popola and more. Twende!!
AfroOankali serves ritual bass: a hypnotic blend of low end frequencies and polyrhythms which celebrates the Afro-Caribbean influence in electronic music and underground club culture. Their genre fluid sets are known to create juicy dancefloors and polyrhythmic portals with blends of Dancehall, Baile Funk, Jungle, House, UK Funky, Gqom and more. A dancer first and foremost, AfroOankali only plays music that will get their body moving. AfroOankali lives in Amsterdam and has an ongoing love affair with Berlin.
