This exhibition invites us into conversation and connection to overturn state violence, and repair and reimagine. This work centres disabled people’s creativity, resistance and expertise in demanding accountability for the ways the welfare system is killing people, while moving away from single issue organising into the connection of different struggles.
Healing Justice Ldn have programmed the space in ways that support solidarity – to recognise how state violence impacts all of our lives, and to collectively reimagine justice and ecosystems of care.
We come together to dream of and build life-affirming systems.
We welcome you into this space and invite you to rehearse with us for how we collectively nurture more life and aliveness for all of our bodyminds and spirit.
At the heart of our exhibition is the Deaths by Welfare timeline, deeply informed by disabled people’s expertise, knowledge, activism, and movements, and which evidences how the welfare system creates life-threatening policies that lead to people’s deaths.
This exhibition is curated by Healing Justice Ldn, in partnership with International Curators Forum (ICF), as part of a collaboration for Rehearsing Freedoms.
We have a living altar and vigil space honouring the resistance and lives of those we’ve lost to state and welfare violence. We call in the power of our ancestors and loved ones in this rehearsal as they move with us. If you would like to add a picture, item or artefact to honour them in the space, please do bring it along.
Content note:
The exhibition and some of our events are about brutal systems. Please prioritise care.
